One of the coolest developments over the last year has been our ability to connect with other schools and organizations in the area. Over the last few weeks, we have been able to meet with top students from Mariposa Foundation and Inspire DR. ISLA is currently working on a scholarship program that will provide education to the strongest candidates from those programs. We are so excited to have the best and brightest local students join our classes!
This entire community should be grateful for the amazing work done each day by our teachers. To show our appreciation, we treated our teachers to a massage from Andari Spa. In addition to that, our teachers had doughnuts from Belgian Cafe, homemade cake made by a Phase 3 parent, and notes of appreciation from each of the students in the school. It's never too late to show your appreciation!
We were recently visited by a wonderful group of university students from McGill University. They came to our school to present a workshop on the importance of recycling plastics and reducing our plastic consumption.
ISLA Academy is now a member of the International Green Schools Alliance. This organization helps to promote healthy environmental practices, with schools at the forefront in the fight against climate change and global pollution. In addition, they offer member schools exclusive curriculum content to use in STEM classrooms.
On April 11, we also received a visit from Christian Shaw of Plastic Tides. His organization uses guided paddleboarding trips to raise awareness of our heavy reliance on the use of plastics. It was amazing for the students to hear how their own projects mirrored the development of this organization. This visit kicked off a month focused on sustainability and the reduction of our consumption. We collected and recycled hundreds of plastic bottles, cleaned our beaches and a local river, and encouraged students to take individual action in their own communities.
We are excited to announce that our early inscription period for the 2019-2020 academic year has begun. Prior to the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year, all families must pay the full cost of registration. However, the cost of registration will be waived for all families who pre-register.
